Day 4 - Wednesday 9th July

>> Wednesday 9 July 2014

It's been the hottest day so far, with the mercury topping 30C this afternoon, and it feels very, very sticky this evening. After the excitement of watching the Brazil v Germany match last night (everyone stayed awake who intended to) we weren't exactly up early, but when we did get up, we had an immediate issue to deal with, as Olivia got a splinter of wood in her right foot on Monday, which was removed, but the area around it was red and a bit inflamed this morning. It seems that a holiday isn't a holiday without taking Olivia to the doctor's, and so off we went to see what they said. It was as well we did, as the doctor explained that the redness that had extended to the ankle by this time was an infection spreading up the vein, so we got some antibiotics. The doctor was confident that she'll soon be better, which was a relief to hear! Back at the house, we had a lazy afternoon in the heat, and barbecued various fish for dinner- yum! Then, this evening, we headed into Jyvaskyla to the harbour area where we had some ice-creams.

Sandy and Anna enjoy their refreshments.
On the quayside.
Tomorrow is to be much cooler, with the temperature only getting up to around 23C, so we plan to head along to the adventure park about 8 miles east of here. No doubt there will be more pictures tomorrow!
But before that, we're staying up late for the 11pm kick off of the Netherlands v Argentina match...
