Day 5 - Thursday 10th July

>> Thursday 10 July 2014

After the late beds of the last two nights, watching the football semi-finals, we weren't in a rush to get up this morning! But when we did, we found it was cloudy and coolish (as predicted) after the extreme heat of yesterday.

Keith in Jyvaskyla this morning.
After breakfast, we jumped in the car and headed into the centre of Jyvaskyla, a ride of around 15 minutes or so. It's such a beautiful centre, with a lovely pedestrian precinct, and lots of things going on each day. Today, as well as an open-air market, there were various groups singing on a stage, so we watched these for a while, as well as doing a bit of shopping. We had lunch around midday, a pizza buffet which was enjoyed by all, then headed east, a few km past the turn-off for our cottage to Nokkakivi, an adventure park which is small, and probably best suited to children under the age of around 10-12. By then, the sun was shining again and the clouds had melted away, and it was reasonably busy (by Finnish standards) in the park.

Keith and Olivia enjoy this ride.

Sandy with cousin Arnold.
Back home by around 4.30pm, I heated the hot-tub for the first time this week, as well as the sauna and we embarked on another round of swimming-sauna-relaxing in the tub all rolled into one, which was good fun. After dinner, we walked about 3/4 km up the road from our place in the evening sunshine, picking blueberries and admiring various butterflies and birds along the way.

Back home, first heating of the hot-tub this week.
The resident ducks, back as they are each day!

Olga and Anna out for a walk in the evening sunshine.
Beautiful blue butterfly!
The calm and serene lake, after swimming was completed for today!
